Sketch Book Challenge - Element

I have chosen "line" as the element for this months challenge. Line creates shape, texture & value. I used Faber Castell Pitt artist pens for this drawing. (raylee).

Full of care,
We have no time
To stand and stare?"

Another Angel

A few months ago i transferred this angel print onto an old watercolour, then coloured it with pencils. it has been hanging around waiting for some kind of inspiration.......well i found it eventually from my many visits to art sites & the inspiration came from lots of different places. i have been using some of my collected bits & pieces.......they are many & varied, the range includes wire, sticks, feathers, shells , bits of discarded junk metal, fabric & old buttons, just to name a few. ......when i came across these old kitchen cupboard door knobs i had to find a new use for them, so they had a lot to do with my inspiration for this art work. Sometimes i would ask myself why i collect sometimes i find the answer. (raylee).

Final Art Update

Have you had enough of this project?... i was fun to play around.....i like to experiment with runny wet watercolours. floating the gesso & adding acrylic made some interesting areas of texture. I wonder what she is thinking about?......i dont think its stitching!

Art Update

A bit of trial & error with the watercolour painting i have been playing with....... ....after washing some of the colour out of the background & adding some gesso & watery white acrylic i added more paint to the face.....

....& then some more..... & splashed some onto the background...... let it run, sprayed it with water & it ran some more......see what happens tomorrow when this lot is dry. (raylee).

Some Winter Colour

The sun is shining, the birds are cold is finally starting to leave me. i sympathise with anyone else battling the runny nose, sore throat, headaches & barking cough. hope you all feel better sooner than later. (raylee).

Art from the Past

Always looking for ways to reuse, or in this case resurrect a part of this watercolour. Previously I used part of this painting to make a box (posted 6th july). After cutting out the part I want to work on , I washed some of the colour out with water.

While it was still wet I added more water & floated some gesso onto it. The face area was left dry to prevent the gesso covering it. My aim is to change the intensity of the tones & improve the painting. (raylee).

New Box from Old Art

The box i made from an old watercolour/collage painting now has a lid. an old bauble came in handy to decorate the top. The part of the painting used for the lid was a bit boring so i added some collage. the "wild at heart" lettering from a magazine, the white & mauve floral is gesso print on acrylic on paper & the pink frangipani is a photo copy of another watercolour painting.

The box measures about 15 x 15cm, its not exactly accurate ,but close enough for me. (raylee).

another shruggy

have been playing with some new wool...
trying to make a pretty shrug...
another layer to keep the cold out...
you can see the pattern that I picked up from Spotlight...maybe last year....
the end result is not as long or loose as I would like....
but its not for me and I have already redone it with a bigger hook...
so it is as it is.....

New Dress for Nellie

Do you remember Nellie? she is one of my first dolls to appear on the blog. her owner brought her back to me as she needed a new outfit. so here she is in a dress made from hand block printed cotton sheeting that was leftover from a bag. the petticoat is black organza from an op shop dress. the belt is black shoe lace cord . Both girls went home happy. a new outfit works wonders.....the smile is worth more than any amount of dollars to me. (raylee).

Ichi .....A New Doll

This face has been hanging around for a few months now, patiently waiting for the rest of her body. the face started out painted onto a piece of white cotton sheet, then it was tea dyed with a rectangular shaped doily .

I cut the flower from the centre of the doily, threaded a length of denim through the holes of the doily. the denim was cut from the hem of a new pair of jeans, then stitched the flower onto the front of the doll.
I stitched some hex nuts onto the other piece of denim & tied it around the neck to make a choker, a few gathers & stitches make the rest of the doily into a hat.

This old soft cotton jumper was stained from a dye run in the wash, but because it felt so cuddly i gave it a new purpose & transformed it into a doll. (raylee).
