Scrappy pictures

lots of lovely scraps leftover...

so I put some together to decorate the scraps...

there is a boat somewhere below...maybe...

oops I think the pirate got lost...

and I don't seem to have a photo of the whole thing...
needless to say it was very scrappy...

Patchwork Bag

found a use for the piece of hexagon patchwork...
and made the scraps into button flowers...

still don't really like the patchwork..
but I do like the light colour interior of the bag...
much easier to find things and cool satin touch...

just details of the button flowers...above
and the woven mesh pocket detail...below
which is actually the seams of the original shirt cut in a strip...
then woven into square shape and sewn to hold together...

Quilts and curtain

blues and yellows...
saved from a pile of mens shirts and uniforms...

found stuff...
lovely old scarves...
not shown so well here...
but lets a lovely light into the western facing room...

another black and blue quilt...
done in the raggy style...
with enough left for a shoulder bag...

Bits and Pieces

and I also had these to play with...
so tried a new shape with the hexagons...
not so sure I like it...

managed to finally finish this quilt...
it has a few different textures...
I've used velvet and lace as well as cheesecloth..
along with the various cottons and blends I normally use...

then I had a play with a turtle...
it's the size of a cushion for little bottoms...
but it doesn't get sat on...
just hugged...

Knitted Coat

this is my version of the pattern shown below....
just using up some old wool gifted to me....

and the little ones found some patchwork pieces....
and put them to good use in the dolls house....
as mats....
clever I thought....

More Scraps

here is the current progress of the hexagon patchwork of scraps...
starting to look like a flowery something...
lots of the scraps are now gone after they're deemed too small for this..

and then I was gifted with someone else's scraps..
lots of bits (that fill a small suitcase)...
leftovers from her patchwork days...

so I found a few that sort of go together....
ending up a bright quilt...
for Mr One....
who may or may not see the bird, dogs, fish and dinosaurs...

Pinky scrappy quilt

and another old sheet for the backing...

with a few hearts sewn on top to hold it all together...

Zigzag Quilt

one of my latest creations...
from a distance the blended colours seem to zigzag...

sample bits saved for many years have been finally put together...
Mum embroidered some of the names of the colours...
including tea, cinnamon, arabesque...
can you tell what colour range arabesque would be??...

I'm pleased it's finished...
not so sure of liking the colours...
had to do the usual and search for more colours to extend the size...
but its done...something else finished...yay!!

Chenille Pillowcases With Applique

after reading "Alabama Style Studio" by Natalie Chanin, which i found at the library i was inspired to do a little bit of hand stitching. also trying to decrease my fabric collection.

this old piece of chenille had some small rust stains, the rest of it was in good condition.  instead of trying to remove them  i made french knots with embroidery thread on top of the stains in a rusty colour to blend in. (you can see a stain in the centre of the photo  if you look closely).
cut some petal shapes from scrap floral cotton, machine stitched them around the french knot centres, then hand stitched the petals with a running stitch.
two new pillowcases from old fabrics found at the op shop.
included in the book there are tutorials & patterns for projects & clothing, & recipes.
Natalie Chanin is a very generous author. lots of hand stitching, reverse applique, embroidery, ideas for using leftover fabric, easy to read & lots of descriptive photos.
you can see her here.

Scrappy Ladies

and after a bit of consultation...
the ladies have been finished...
and now cover the front of a cushion....

while I was sewing the cushion...
I also had time to finish the backing on this latest quilt...

this material was gifted to me...
when I was looking for grey and black colours a while ago...
I found the bag and had enough to get this made..
just a top and cotton backing...

Stitches in progress

when I should be working on finishing this...
it only needs the backing to be sewn on...

I have been still working on the little bits of scraps...
remembering that I can work quietly...
with bits on my lap...
and just cutting or hand sewing...

and all that stuff I don't want to throw away...
can be used for something else...

hexagon shapes that I found in a tin...
have been joined by some more scraps...
and colours...
hope it will be a cover of flowers when finished...

then yesterday I found this photocopy...
given to me by my Mum many years ago...
she said that she always wanted to do something like it...
and wondered where it had got to...

so I had a bit of a play with my scraps...
and this is what I'm now working on...

dollies again

two new dollies for the collection...

found a baby doll pattern...
that I had to fiddle with to get the head right...

she has a bib...
and a nappy that can be changed....
with the help of a couple of press studs...
and she also has a blanket to be wrapped in...
she became Miss 4's birthday present...
and she is loved...
but a lot of work cause she constantly needs a nappy change...

and this dolly will have an awake face...
on the white side ( as first photo shows)...
and an asleep face on the pink side...
when I get around to it...

Happy Australia Day!!!

Scrappy Curtain

found these scraps waiting for a new life...
I liked the patterns and colours...
so I put them together..

you may think it is a bit short...
but it leaves the window sill free to put things...
I regularly have things blown off the shelf when a strong gust hits...
so I'm quite pleased with the end result..

in this photo you can see why I need a curtain...
morning sun streams in...
and in this weather it gets too hot and bright...

Patches and a repair

had a lovely new chair given to me recently...
very popular all round...
had a small worn tear starting on the front of the cushion...

then little fingers found the lovely foam stuff inside...
and started to pick at it...
so in keeping with my using up leftover bits...
I found some pieces big enough to fix it...

and this quilt has finally been finished...
old shirts and things on the front with the polar fleece backing...
light but warm when required...

Happy New Year with stacks of scraps

Happy New Year to us all!!...

have been sort of horrified to realise all the bits I have kept from my creations...
a box of scraps leftover from quilts mainly..
and the quilts are using up old bit of clothes and fabric I cant bear to throw away...
the scraps come in handy for the little dolls and animals...
and recently I tried some crazy patchwork to use some bits up...
they've become mini quilts...
but still too small for the dollies lying around...

the latest horse appeared...
and around him/her my stacks of scraps..
still more bits saved for the day when I will recreate something...

even another dolly has appeared...
lots of work to be done to empty the scrap box...
and then I noticed the other day that I was adding more stuff to it!...(sigh)..
oh well...gives me something to do...
maybe this year I'll use it all up!?!...
