Sketch Book Challenge - July - "Circles"

a  circular shaped spoon sketched with a lead 2H watercolour pencil , & painted with cad yellow pale, cobalt blue  &  brown madder  watercolours. (raylee).

patchwork patching

one of my original patchwork attempts...

recently came back needing repairs...

the cotton back...that once was the inside....

has worn so thin its tearing....

his sleeping bag...

that fitted nicely when he was 10...

had a patchwork cover applied to revamp it....

and bring it along to his adult world...

no use applying patches....

too far gone...

so hunted through the stash...

and found another sheet...

covered the whole back...

to give it a bit more life...

"Big Red Dress"

 The painting ...... "Big Red Dress".... has found a home!!

Her new owner emailed this photo to me this morning. she assured me she was very happy in this little girl's bedroom.......she is smiling, me too ... (raylee).

Mixed Media Art

This artwork came about as i randomly  painted leftover acrylic paint onto an old  lead pencil drawing in a sketch book(you can see the lines of the pencil work) & stuck the still wet torn tissue paper from the palette on top of the paint........

 then a little bit of charcoal, & a bit of pink & blue pastel (cheeks & eyes).......a mat to define what was happening.......

 & a bit more blue pastel shading on the right eye.........a quick easy don't think about it too much painting. just do it & see what happens.

 as i have only recently started to experiment with mixed media, i am posting the continuation of this project which began with a red acrylic background, gesso scraped over to make some texture, painted papers added, paint splatters & runs, more texture from plastic lids & gel medium, & layers of acrylic paint.

Old Letters

Found a bag of old letters when i was looking for something else recently........how the memories all flood back . ........this is a drawing of a dress by one of my nieces of a dress she wanted me to make for her prom, & her instructions were on the other side......"this bit would have to be big go over the hooters". we live in different states........ so i bought the materials & made the dress for her.........sent it & thankfully her measurements were correct , it was a perfect fit "hooters" included.

these are from my sisters........pretty envelopes & stamps.......stamps at 20 cents, when was that?.....how quickly times change........i am wondering what to do with all these old letters, as some of them are deteriorating.........any suggestions would be appreciated. (raylee).

green and blue granny squares

these are the squares made from the last of the blue and green colours I had left...

I was getting a bit tired of the stripes with the knitting so I changed to squares...

getting out into the sun to find a decent photo...

may be a bit bright...

and my favourite jumper is looking a bit tired too...

so the front appears a bit narrow...

and no collar to speak of so...

I scraped up some more bits of wool...

added edging and a few rows for a collar...

                                                                         here it is...

done and dusted...

better fit...

and warmer on these chilly days...

Mixed Media Art

 Hello all......how are you tonight? just thought i would show a little bit of what i have been doing today.....well i should say last night, i spread gesso over a red acrylic background on canvas with a scraper, left it to dry over night. i left some areas so the red would show through, scraped some of the gesso to make it thinner & moved it around to make some random texture. in other words played with it!

this morning i made a thin mix using  a cool yellow acrylic with some gel medium & water & painted this over the gesso,

 next i used a paper napkin to blot some of the paint while it was still wet. then i did the same again with a warm yellow etc., but this time i used more gel medium to make some more texture. when this was partly dry i did the same again with a cool red & a warm red.while it was still wet i made a runny mix of paint, gel medium & water applied it at the edges of the canvas, one at a time, & tilted the canvas to make it run from side to side. this made the grid like pattern. while the gel medium was still wet i made circular patterns by pressing various plastic  lids into it, & scraping out some of the gel with a teaspoon. i hadn't planned the teaspoon bit, but started doodling with it while talking to my sister on the phone this afternoon. i don't know where this is going yet, tomorrow is another day.......full of possibilities. what's been keeping you busy lately? Patchwork repair

this patchwork started as the cover to my old divan...

in recent times the dreaded mould got to one side of it...

so a repair was required...

I chopped off all the yukky bits...

and found a few strips still ok...

so found some more bits of fabric...

and started the recreation...

might keep this one as a quilt...

will be heavy enough to use in this colder weather...
