Decorative Art Change

Silver stencil ( bought at the Dollar shop), then a gold layer....
Next an image transfer on the top left side....
Another stencil, some gold text this time on the right hand side from Seth Apter from thealteredpage.blogspot.com

Dry brushed silver & gold on the legs......some more distressing with sandpaper on the edges of the washstand.....
& what a difference this easy makeover  made to a tired old washstand!

'Little Bird' - Gel Skin Medium Transfer/Mixed Media

Most of the time I like to experiment just to see where it takes me.....After reading about Image Transfers thought I would have a try with a black & white photo.
After all the backing paper was removed it was a little bland & ghost like.
Which I liked but  decided a darker background was needed to bring the image more into focus. Black gesso over used watercolour paper & a bird stencil over the black with white gesso made a much more interesting background.
When the image was placed over the black & white it  created more depth, pushing  the old   building back & making it more ghost like, and this brought the girl riding her bike forward.
Once on the canvas it still needed something else.
A colourful frame..... acrylic painted over old used watercolour paper, collage frame image & a border stenciled with markers. Two subtle bird image transfers, some branches with buds & text transfer & a spotty transfer on the top at the sides to finish.
The marker line border was made with this stencil from Stencil Girl Products designed by Seth Apter.

Image transfer/mixed media

Image transfer on old book page with gesso undercoat & cobalt blue acrylic around the edge of the pages.
I found this image a long time ago in a National Geographic magazine.
When I paint I brush excess paint onto old book pages etc. As I did this I noticed the words " this is what she wrote" at the top of the right hand page....this page just so happened to be the one I had chosen for this image transfer........so this was my inspiration for this artwork.
Collaged a paper border with printed handwriting on it onto the canvas board.
Then added the book page with gel medium. When it was dry I added the corner collage pieces.
Last of all crayon which I smudged with my fingers to soften the overall appearance of this picture.

Faces in the Mix, 365 Creative Challenge 2013

collage of magazine pictures, turned up side down, with gesso over the top, written into with end of paintbrush, when dry some watercolour splashes & flicks added.
it says "don't leave brushes in the water" : they will fall to pieces, i should know better.

image transfer of printed photo over acrylic painted sketch book paper, some of the paper pulled away, a glaze of magenta acrylic, collage text & gesso.
catching features from different faces as they appeared on the screen to make one.

layers of acrylic over old watercolour , stamped with moulding gel, circles painted with watercolour, when dry a layer of gesso sprayed with water & left to dry. gives a cloudy appearance.
another face collage with strips of painted paper stuck on, also some sticky tape which i removed after a glaze.
then a layer of gel medium to form the texture.
i used transparent acrylic paint glazes, gesso dribbles (the light bits) & more watery acrylic glazes.

"Girls Just Want To Have Fun".......

3- mixed media on canvas....the end......

 1- the beginning.
torn paper collage on old book page.......
& the same again on cardboard.
i'm not sure where i am up to with the 365 creative challenge, but i have been doing something every day. as some things take more than one day to complete, i will have to do some counting to find out where i am at.
i have folders full of paper that i haven't even put a dent in yet. i am enjoying this challenge, i just look at some of the pages in the stash & every thing starts to flow.

Spring Flowers.......Paint & Collage

i have been wanting to try this rose pattern wooden block print.
so to the beginning........first day....i painted a square canvas with acrylic dirty yellows & creams, let it dry, (last photo)......i am kind of going backwards here, but you will work it out. the first three photos are where i am at today.

the day before i tried some image transfers.......not very successful, but will add to the layering process.
then added some torn paper collage, let it dry before block printing with pink & cream acrylic.

this transfer of peonies in a jug worked ok.

not sure where this is going......just doing it day by day & letting each layer dry before the next one.
