Bits and Pieces
I recently got the opportunity to change my space...
so have been going through my "stuff "...
found a couple of lacy tablecloths...
which became a curtain for the window...
a bit of a look at what I've been working on...
with the nose of the new machine...
sample fabric which still has the colour name stickers on...
trying to match up some similar colours...
to make a bigger size quilt...
also found this odd creation from my Grannie...
all the rage in my early teens...
baby doll face with crochet plastic raffia to hold a ball of string...
and the string end comes out her mouth...
funny...the stuff we keep...
an old box that I had covered in paper mache brown paper...
with the old Christmas images from a magazine...
and this box is full of maps...
places we've been...
and collections for use one day...
and a couple of Raylee's early works...
that I took from her stash...
a few years ago...
so everything old is new again...
different things to look at for a while...
till I pack them up again...
its no wonder that I cant throw anything away...

Fabric Collage & Stitch & Collage Mix - 365 Creative Challenge 2013
i have counted!.......i am up to date as of friday 15/11/2013 with the 365 creative challenge.
this mix of collage, watercolour & embroidery brings me to day 319.
so after almost 11 months i am getting some sort of order happening, not really just keeping on with it every day.
the idea for the watercolour fish is from the book "freestyle quilts" by susan carlson.
her website if you like quilting or also if you like collage. her fabric collage is stunning. go on have a look!!

Faces in the Mix, 365 Creative Challenge 2013
collage of magazine pictures, turned up side down, with gesso over the top, written into with end of paintbrush, when dry some watercolour splashes & flicks added.
it says "don't leave brushes in the water" : they will fall to pieces, i should know better.
image transfer of printed photo over acrylic painted sketch book paper, some of the paper pulled away, a glaze of magenta acrylic, collage text & gesso.
layers of acrylic over old watercolour , stamped with moulding gel, circles painted with watercolour, when dry a layer of gesso sprayed with water & left to dry. gives a cloudy appearance.
another face collage with strips of painted paper stuck on, also some sticky tape which i removed after a glaze.
then a layer of gel medium to form the texture.
i used transparent acrylic paint glazes, gesso dribbles (the light bits) & more watery acrylic glazes.

catching features from different faces as they appeared on the screen to make one.

Layers of Mixed Media - 365 Creative Challenge 2013
some where in the middle of the layering process.......

the beginning: a dark grey magazine page stamped with acrylic & wood blocks.
gel medium & cut out bits of watercolour painted papers, some collage from magazine pages,
some stencilling through a paper doily, pink & green acrylic glazes
a prussian blue acrylic glaze.
finally a clear matt spray varnish.......which made it hard to photograph, but you get the picture.
there are 13 layers in all on this page.

Mixed Media Art Pages - 365 Creative Challenge 2013.
good morning........hope you are enjoying this sunny sunday morning.
catching up with posting my "365 creative challenge" pages.......
the first one is a collage on old book page with words highlighted & covered with black crayon.
acrylic bird on previously painted & stamped note paper stuck over an old diary page.
pva glue & acrylic over old watercolour that was previously stamped with moulding paste & painted with acrylic.
the acrylic was applied while the pva glue was wet, when it dries it sort of crackles.
i painted a glaze of prussian blue over the top half just to see how it would look.
a lot of my pages are experiments, trying different applications & different mediums together to see what kind of textures & colours appear.
i have been keeping notes of each experiment so that i can repeat the ones i like.
i try to have all the different mediums stored in a kind of order to make it easier to find the ones i want to use.
as well as my "how to" notes i also keep a written record of my photos .
yes,.... i know it's a bit old school, but it works for me.
do you have a system to record/remember things you do, or things you want to do?
i would be interested to hear your ideas.

when it was dry i went back into the leaves with white acrylic, & when that was dry i painted the blue bits in watercolour again.
i wiped across the ones on the right of the page with a cloth while wet to soften & blur the look.
this "challenge" is making me a bit more organized in my approach to making art.
