"This is what she wrote......"

 Image transfer on old book page with gesso undercoat & cobalt blue acrylic around the edge of the pages.
I found this image a long time ago in a National Geographic magazine.
When I paint I brush excess paint onto old book pages etc. As I did this I noticed the words " this is what she wrote" at the top of the right hand page....this page just so happened to be the one I had chosen for this image transfer........so this was my inspiration for this artwork.

Drawing over a dry watery coat of burnt sienna with pen, added some colour to the drawing with watercolour pencils.

 Collaged a paper border with printed handwriting on it onto the canvas board.

 Then added the book page with gel medium. When it was dry I added the corner collage pieces.

  Last of all crayon which I smudged with my fingers to soften the overall appearance of this picture.

Vintage/Retro Style Collage/Mixed Media

following on from my last post.......i have added some more paint to these collages......

 stamped more red spots......at the top & the sides......

a bit more blue  paint over the dots,

& i think they are finished.
i started with a black book cover as the base, old torn book pages, sewing pattern paper, magazine pages & torn painted book page paper (black squares), cardboard packaging with circle cutout as a stencil for the red dots & a paper doily as a stencil with gel medium to create some texture,  an old wine cork as a stamp (broken red shapes), all paint used  is acrylic.

Family & The Ties That Bind

 there are paintings around my place in different stages that no-one notices.......i thought it interesting that both my children commented on this piece on  separate visits.

it is made from an old vent from a house my family  lived in when i was a child.

 the dark frame surrounding the vent is a found one & the outside one i bought at an auction shop. the photo is of my two younger sisters taken in front of the house early 1960's.(they are both wearing aprons).

 each piece fitted inside the other, i tied some old crochet cotton through the holes in the vent & around the frame just to hold it in place. i didn't put anything on the back as i wanted the light to create shadows when i hung it on the wall, which you can see in the first photo (click on photo ).

 the pen marks the spot on the map of the location of "bobundara" near cooma nsw, where we lived.

 my school photo which was taken around the same time as the one of my sisters.
& the same photo i altered for the "365 creative challenge 2013" journal.

Day 365 Creative Challenge 2013 !!!!!

yesterday's collage - "pensive girl in a blue floral dress".......pen drawing on old diary page, colour added with nail polish, dress cut from magazine page, rick rack, lace & ribbon scraps, background is scrap book paper.

 for today, the last of the  *365  creative challenge 2013*,  i scribbled water soluble crayon over old diary page, stuck some torn strips of blue painter's masking tape along the bottom of the page for the water,

 tore pieces from these two previous pages to make some trees, grass, flowers & a roof.......put on some more crayon,  & brushed with  water.......

 to create " river house".

Nature Collage - 365 Creative Challenge 2013

yesterday's collage today......my grand daughter gave me the gumnuts & feather  to use in a collage.
 i rescued the cardboard, christmas  wrapping paper & raffia from the bin, & the hessian & old bits of doily were scraps from the wedding decorating.
all put togetther  with gel medium on an old book cover.

these pages bring me up to date today......a mixture of cut & torn magazine paper collage, one from torn & crumpled paper  with some vaseline resist & acrylic glazing, & white gesso, Christmas wrapping paper , tags, ribbon, raffia & string.
red acrylic drawn over with water soluble black graphite.
  a print of a photo of a lady sitting on a bench scratching a ticket,  with a layer of black water soluble crayon rubbed over it.
the first & last collages are made from old national geographic magazines, 1986 & 1988. i found lots of photos with  textures from all sorts of different things.

365 Creative Challenge 2013 - Counting Down The Days

 to get the border reasonably straight for the acrylic pineapple paintings i used blue painters masking tape. when the paintings were dry i removed the masking tape & tore it into strips, stuck them onto a piece of pinky red painted paper then cut them into squares roughly.

 stuck the pieces on the used office diary pages.

this one i placed them closer together & stacked some pieces on top of others to create more texture.

 i went back to the first page with white gesso, leaving some circle shapes, stuck on some small cut out circles, rectangles & squares on the bottom part.

this one is acrylic paint mixed with aquadhere glue, makes it very glossy. placed next to the flat opaque black gesso there is a distinct contrast. 

 collage on wood block acrylic prints on watercolour on used sketch book paper, & washi tape.

black pitt pen doodles on painted paper. the colours are lemon yellow, yellow ochre & magenta. strips of masking tape were removed from the paper leaving little bits of blue.

 this one looks like trees to me , what do you think?
