Fabric for Chairs

Poor tired old chairs...
fabric worn through...
foam stuffing getting picked at by littlies...

dig out the old pale jeans...
chop off the seams...and maybe they fit...
stitch them in place...
and a denim flower now adorns the worn...

then there are the dining chairs..
old patchwork chair covers cut..
and stapled to the straight...
a new life from the old...

Pillows

had some pillows needing some decoration....
and something to keep my fingers busy...
found some clothing at a nearby op-shop....
got the scissors and started cutting...
no machine so needle and thread would have to do...

Alphabet Cushion Cover

A very retro alphabet fabric passed on to me from Simonne. Now a pretty cushion cover with ric-rac trim.
Bedside table, a kerbside throwaway.
White lace doily, op shop find.

From the Lake to the Garden.....

we live close to a lake where a lot of leisure time is spent.
we go out in an old boat that husband has restored.
he likes to go fishing, i just like being on the water.
sometimes he brings home fish or mud crabs.......
but this one time he brought home a chair that he found in the lake almost submerged. being the inquisitive type he had to investigate what was sticking up out of the water!
it was muddy & yukky, but after a good scrubbing & some new cushions made from fabrics that i had unpicked from a couch cover, a piece of floral curtain fabric(found in my art tutor's rag box for cleaning oily paint brushes) much too pretty for that!, & trimmed with some piping i found at the op shop.
the chair now  looks quite comfortable in the garden.
i had to save this floral piece from being destroyed by oil paint. it just happened to be the right size for the chair seat cushion.

Old Chairs - New Look

the chairs came from the tip shop & the calico from the op shop & the hessian was left over  from a previous project
i bought the spotted fabric draped over the chair on the left thinking i would recover the chairs the right way. but when i wrapped them in calico for a garden wedding i liked the look, so will keep the fabric until i think they need a change.

liked this one so stuck it onto an old book cover & then onto a small canvas. still going strong with the challenge, thanks to ihanna for setting this challenge.
the paper flowers i made from rusty wire, book pages & paper doilies, & metal container, another garage sale find, & the table made from wall boards from one of our old houses we renovated a long time ago.these  have been previously  posted  on our blog, from way back, i can't remember when.

under the covers...... what the chairs look like ......really.

early morning sun on paper flowers.

i would like to say thank you to the graphicsfairy for some of the images i used to make the second wedding guest book recently. there are some photos on the previous post
a couple of links to some very impressive paper work: annawilihighfield
.
for the wedding i wrapped & knotted the calico & tied the hessian strips around the chairs to keep it all together & finished the look with pieces of old lace tablecloths draped over the backs of the chairs.
have i inspired you to try a no- sew new look for your old chairs?

Crochet Pillow Case & Continuation of Bedroom Makeover/ 365 Creative Challenge 2013

i chose  yellow.......a colour i don't use very often......so decided a little bit would be ok to add some zing to the blue/grey/purple colour scheme.
i almost threw the lemons in the bin a couple of weeks ago but something stopped me. i like little touches of the unexpected.

the back of the pillow case,....... the chenille, the vase, & the clock are op-shop finds. the bedside table & bedheads were kerbside throw outs.

i am almost finished in this guest room, just deciding on a bedside table for the other side of the bed, & where to hang another picture/pictures?
this has been a fun project.......the white was like having a blank canvas to play with.....
i might do this again!

Embroidered Patchwork Cushion Cover

i would think twice about cutting someone else's work , but when it's mine i don't mind. i wasn't left with much of the quilt, just a few strips. so i stitched the good bits together to make a cushion cover.
i am not a very good patch worker, my pieces never match up.......i am not too worried , i have come to accept the fact that i am not a perfectionist. i am more interested in how i use colour, & if the finished product is useful.
i didn't try to match up the pieces so it is a bit random. the blanket stitching was the border of the quilt, but most of it was damaged. i salvaged what i could to give the cover a border.

the back is made from pieces of chenille from old bedspreads found at op shops.

now adding a sunny splash of colour to the  verandah.

Trash to Treasure

i took photos of this chair in the sunshine, it was left on the kerb in my street, just the cane chair without cushions. so it found it's way to my place for some new cushions.......i found 3 remnants at the local fabric shop, they make a lot of soft furnishings so always have leftover pieces.
the  inserts covers i made from calico & the outer covers from two remnants of velvet, with piping made from a piece of printed cotton...... this is how it looked when it was finished..... ready for a new home.

 the fabrics......

 new cushions!
what do you think ?..... to paint or not to paint?
