Sketchbook Challenge - December : "Gifts"

This doll was a gift for Christmas when i was thirteen, her name is Marika. she now sits under a glass dome as her legs are broken, the hard  plastic cracked,  her eyelashes have fallen out, her hair is kinda matted, she has lost her socks & shoes. there once  was a pink rose pinned to her dress ,  but she is still beautiful to me.

i have another mixed media artwork over at thealteredpage today, courtesy of Seth Apter.
Seth is a mixed media artist & author from New York, he organises different art collaborations, well worth a look. you will find lots to see & heaps of information about art & artists.

Sketch Book Challenges

Catching up with my sketch book challenges again.......the first one is for august, the prompt was "shelter". a quick sketch of two umbrellas in white pastel & black crayon over an old blue & black acrylic painting on  textured  watercolour paper.
the title for september is "patterns". these pages are acrylic on a collage of used window envelopes, used office papers stamped with round plastic lids to make circles, crayon & pitt pen drawing,  stenciled with plastic packaging (the little yellow rectangular  shapes) & old stick on dots that have lost their sticky stuff, stuck on with impasto gel & then glued into my sketch book. i think re- using all of these materials has worked well for this exercise, a lot of paper comes into the office, i just save a bit of it from going into the recycle bin by using it in art work. Sketchbook Challenge Catch-up

Just a little bit behind with my sketches.......this is the August challenge..."every day items". I used a tea-pot with a broken handle, & a small glass bottle, an op-shop find, the rest of the items are imaginary. i did a quick sketch with an "artline o.5 drawing pen", then coloured with "derwent inktense watersoluble ink pencils", then brushed with water.....in some places i went back with a wet pencil.

It began as a 1 page sketch but i wasnt happy with it , so i cut it down the middle & cropped the part i didnt like. i think cropping made the subjects more intimate. the teapot is yellow, another colour i find difficult to use sometimes. so i decided to experiment with it in this quick sketch. i always try to make the first attempt work, it doesnt happen all the time but i like the challenge....... what do you think about this process of elimination?..... which page appeals to you?...... or do you think i should have scrapped it & started over again?..... Sketch Book Challenge - Element

I have chosen "line" as the element for this months challenge. Line creates shape, texture & value. I used Faber Castell Pitt artist pens for this drawing. (raylee).
